Warning: this post has a ridiculously large number of photos.
This past week has had some spontaneous fun. We started with a last-minute trip to Estes Park to meet our friends from South Dakota who were going to camp at Rocky Mountain National Park. Because it was such a last-minute plan, John could only take about a day and a half off, so we had just under 24 hours in Estes, but we made the most of it. It was also John's birthday, so he got to have it off and enjoy himself in the mountains.
Wandered around the beautiful, historic Stanley Hotel.

Bought some birthday cookies downtown. Perfect reflection for a self-portrait.
Celebrated hubby's birthday with enormous cookies
And delicious local cider
Shot some elk
Had breakfast at the Egg & I the next day
Visited with South Dakota friends
and Colorado friends
Picked up a satellite on the way home
We packed a lot into that day and a half and we had a terrific time doing it!

Looks like a great weekend! We camped in Rocky Mnt National last summer. Beautiful. Dianne, you look so pretty in your pictures!!
LOVE your shots of the Stanley Hotel. What a beautiful, historic place with so many inspiring things to shoot. The light in the music room is pure bliss and the angle you chose to shoot the old car is great! Also love your perspective of the hotel from the back; simply lovely!! The elk shots were a nice bonus too..
Now I want to get in my car and take a little road trip :) Hummm(n)... how far is Estes Park from Montreal??
Thx for the great pix of your mini-vacation!

Beautiful. I am homesick for Colorado now. I grew up about 20 minutes from Estes in the Big Thompson Canyon (and I have never been to the Stanley Hotel).
What an awesome weekend!! The hotel is breathtaking. I would LOVE to see it in real. Oh, and a great looking family too :o)!
Blessings!
Deborah
