Tales From the Scales - Week #??

Okay, I have TOTALLY lost track of which week we're in. Not that I couldn't go over to the actual Tales From the Scales site, because I could. Like if I just clicked on the link over there in my list. It's really not all that hard.

So it's Week 16. I'm down a pound. That's according to the set of scales with missing number tops - actually I was able to look at the numbers from a slightly different angle and they showed up! Oh, I also found out that if I use the scales on the carpet, I'm down about 30 pounds. Only problem there is that the clothes aren't falling off yet. So back to the scales on a solid floor. While it's nothing astronomical, I think my grand, whopping total for all 16 weeks is about 4 pounds. Now I could be incredibly depressed with such a pathetic loss. I could go drown my sorrows in a box of Little Debbie's Swiss Cake Rolls. Or I could take the high road. The one where the signs read like the old Burma Shave ads:

You could be up
Instead of down

So be happy
Cuz you have less pounds

or

Hinky dinky
Parley voo

Ditch the Dr. Pepper
And the pounds will ditch you

or

Eat some veggies
Drink more water

You'll wear shorts
When it gets hotter

So what do you think? Do I have a future in advertising?

Tales From the Scales - Week #??

Well, at last I seem to be hanging on to the proverbial wagon instead of lying on the dirt trail. Without any fully-functioning scales, it's been a little hard to assess my success (or lack thereof) on the weight loss journey.

Yesterday at Curves, I did remember to weigh and with my shoes on (I usually weigh without them), I was down a pound. It's a step in the right direction. I'm sure the fact that it's been too stinkin' hot around here has lead to my lack of interest in eating. But that seems to be a good thing.

School starts next week so we'll be back to some regular walking which should also help. Being on a consistent routine also seems to help with better eating.

Tales From the Scales - Week #9

To the best of my knowledge, I'm still the same weight. Since I no longer have fully functioning scales, it's kind of a tough read. However, I go to Curves about 3x a week, so I am going to start weighing myself there. The timing and clothes are different, but after the first week, it ought to all balance out. I weighed there on Monday and I weighed the same as I did at home the previous couple of weeks.

Just the same. I am working on getting in more exercise, though. Curves is great for increasing my energy level and keeping me from crashing in the afternoon. It's also good for improved flexibility. However, after a good walk this morning, I can tell that I'm not getting that muscle burn that feels so good when I go to Curves. I do try and really focus on the muscle group being used and work them well. But there hasn't been a burn since I first joined. That's okay, I'll keep going, but I'm adding some home exercise video workouts as well as some walking. I know that the activity has to increase.

Choosing to see the good side of things, I'm grateful that my weight hasn't gone up! And all this HOT weather encourages me to drink LOTS more water! :D

Thursday Thoughts

Wow! A few days went zinging by somehow. I didn't post for Tales From the Scales on Tuesday because I need new scales. Replacing the batteries didn't resolve the problem. Phooey!

Thought I'd get something up for Wordless Wednesday, but obviously that didn't happen either. You can go check out some other WW pix though.

There's some big news over at Sprittibee if you'd like to find out the lastest in their life adventures.

A dear 27-year old single mom is in tremendous need of prayer and encouragement. I found out about her via Especially Heather (who also needs continued prayer and encouragement). Please add Nicole and her son to your prayers.

I've just been in and out (mostly out) a LOT this week, it seems. As much as I try to get things done around the house, I'm not accomplishing much. More of a one step forward, two steps back kind of deal. Sigh.

Tonight I'm off to a rubber stamp club gathering. Should be fun and then we (Mom, my friend, and me) get to head over to Starbucks. Yum! My sister's working tonight, so we'll pop in and say "hi" to her.

Oh, I know I've mentioned sleep issues in the past and my mom recently told me about a wonderfully awesome thing to help. You just rub a couple of drops of lavender oil on the bottom of your feet before going to sleep (be sure to wash your hands afterwards). It really works! Really well! Hubby & I have both been sleeping SO well. It doesn't make you all groggy and goofy in the morning like the PM pain revlievers can. Even my mom, who has had some bigger sleep issues than me for quite awhile, has been sleeping marvelously for around 3 weeks now. Plus it smells good!

And no, there's no correlation between the Starbucks visit at night and sleeplessness! LOL! On those nights of insomnia, I hadn't had any caffeine since around lunch time.

That's about it, I guess. Oh, I need to get cracking on school plans for this year, as we need to start within the next month.

It's always something, but that's okay. Life may seem a little chaotic at times (from my perspective), but honestly, my life is pretty good really. Things could be so much more difficult. But whether it's easy or hard, chaotic or smooth, God is always there. He's always available, He's always faithful, and He'll never leave nor forsake me (or you!).

Blessings to you!

Tales From the Scales - Week #8

No loss, but no gain either. Slow & steady wins the race, right? If you're a tortoise, anyway.

Hopefully with the sodalessness of my week, increased water (it's too hot here for me), and getting to Curves regularly, I'll see a nice drop next week. Until then, here's a quote from the board at Curves this a.m. that sums it up nicely.

"Eating healthy isn't about being perfect all the time. It's about eating your best most of the time."

Tales From the Scales - Week #7

Yes, I missed last week. Only because I thought I needed new batteries in my scales. Turns out that wasn't the problem. About half of each digit is just not showing any more. Phooey! I am, however, still able to figure out my weight. While nothing monumental, I'm down another 1/2 pound.

That's okay, though. I didn't add all this baggage overnight and it won't come off overnight either. At least it's a step in the right direction!

On a happy note, I'm getting much more water in, eating more fruit & veggies, and had NO DR PEPPER yesterday. Just one today. That's HUGE for me! So I'll just keep on plugging away.

Tales From the Scales - Week #5

Well, I'm either down a half pound or 3 1/2 pounds. My stupid wonderful display on my scales is only showing partial numbers! Ha! My guess is it's a half pound, although I vote for three and a half. I'm with Robin in that I need to get serious about this. As with so much of my life, I'm serious part of the time and then totally not. I just have that "all or nothing" thing going on much of the time (except when I don't - LOL!). So we'll put me down for -0.5 lb. Better than +0.5 lb.

I'm trying to get back to exercising, but it's been a little challenging due to allergies and waking up feeling like my head's in a tube. Today it all moved into my chest - ugh! Also working on increasing water and decreasing Dr Pepper.

Maybe my battery needs to be replaced . . . or maybe the battery in the scales needs to be replaced. Maybe next week I'll have a complete readout.

Tales From the Scales - Week #4

Oops! I forgot that it's Tuesday today. Maybe it's because my head is stuffy - allergies, cold, whatever. So . . . I will weigh myself tomorrow. I feel like weighing at different times of the day isn't as consistent, so I'll stick with my first-thing-in-the-morning method, but it will be Wednesday instead.

Tales From the Scales - Week #3

I've dropped the 1/2 pound gain from last week - yeah! My biggest challenge is backing off the Dr. Pepper that I'm so incredibly addicted to. But with sleep issues the past week, the less caffeine, the better. No, that doesn't mean I'll give up my morning chai, but that's a LONG ways from bedtime, so I'm not too worried about that. The good thing about limiting the DP is that I'll drink more water (usually) which is always a big help.

So the total now is down 2 1/2 pounds. :D

Bad Computer, etc.

Well, my computer is being very bad! In fact, it went over to the principal's house today (our techie friend).

So, this will be a quick update from my Mom's house.

Tales from the Scales - I think I'm up a half pound. No worries, this is about lifelong changes, not just one week.

I just read the most recent updates at Especially Heather (see link on lower right, I'm taking the lazy way out). What a tremendous blessing to see how God's working in her life.

I'm anxious to read Sprittibee's homeschool planning post (yes, link on the lower right side again) as I want to do a better job of planning for next year. We will be doing school on a miminal basis over the summer. I'll post more on that later.

It seems like there was something else, but I've lost it. Hubby is going to bring home the laptop, so I'll have some computer/internet access still. My big bad computer is supposed to come home with a much better attitude tomorrow.

Oh, S*per Scr*bble Deluxe is loads of fun, but it takes much longer to play a game! Mom & I played last week and it felt like it took 3 hours for one game (we usually do a game in 20-40 minutes). I think it was around 1 hour and 20 minutes in reality. It's pretty wild to play for nearly an hour and still have loads of empty space on the board, plus lots of tiles in the bag. But we still had a good time.

Guess I'd better head home - the natives just called and I think things are getting out of hand. I don't really want to get home and find blood.

May Day Weight Loss Challenge

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

This is THE day - the May Day Weight Loss Challenge begins over at Tales from the Scales. This challenge will run from May 8th to September 8th and is open to anyone - bloggers and non-bloggers. So if you'd like to join in, click the button or the link above.

Meanwhile, back here on the bunny trail, I'll be posting my LOSSES (or gains) each week. The idea being that this will provide some much-needed accountability. I'm also supposed to share a little about my weight history, so this is the point at which you can get your nice, cold (or hot) beverage and settle in for some reading, or just find something more interesting to do, like trim your split ends, one at a time, or maybe wax the driveway.

Prior to getting married, I think the weight stayed away from me because I danced - a lot! Naturally, aftger getting married, going out to bars and dancing with other guys (hubby doesn't dance) was completely inappropriate (side note: this took place before I came to know Jesus!). Since my one and only method of exercise was gone, excess weight started following me around and clinging onto my hips, thighs, and other sundry areas.

Over the subsequent years, I tried a few plans but mostly Weight Watchers on and off. WW really is awesome - WHEN I follow it.

I did well with my first pregnancy because I had to carefully monitor what I ate due to borderline gestational diabetes. In fact, at my 6-week post-delivery check up, I weighed 30 pounds less than before I got pregnant! I didn't manage so well with the second pregnancy and have since added and shifted assorted poundage (kids are now 13 1/2 and 12).

At this point, I'm pretty close to my highest weight - ugh! I have been going to Curves which has helped my energy level. Now that it's spring, I always have that hankering to get in better shape for the summer. That, and a hankering for homemade ice cream. LOL!

As it always is with God's amazing timing, today is a beautiful, glorious spring day - following a couple weeks of clouds, fog, rain, and snow. So it's the perfect day to be motivated to begin this challenge. Next Tuesday I'll be posting a LOSS! Either that, or I'll be serving myself a big bowl of crow (baked white meat, no skin, and a salad on the side topped with Bernstein's Lite Northern Italian with Basil & Romano dressing).
