Pom Poms Where?

My sister called this afternoon to tell me that she was just getting ready to leave the house to pick up her daughter from school. Of course, she had her 3 year old in tow. All they had to do was get out the door and get into the van.

If only it were that simple.

My sweet, adorable, little niece kindly let her mother know that she had a pom pom in her nose.

Sometimes our plans are delayed.

Naturally, the first course of action is to have her blow her nose. Nice try, but it didn't work.

So she laid her on the bed to determine if she could see the pom pom. Then she recalled hearing or reading that you can blow in one nostril and the air will blow through and out the other nostril. So she did. (darn, I missed a Kodak moment!)

It worked. Sort of. But when my niece felt something in her nose, she did what most children (and adults) would do - yep, she sniffed! Back up it went!

So she had to explain to her daughter that this time she was NOT to sniff when it was dislodged. Fortunately, try #2 was successful - completely.

I guess we all have our silly kids-putting-things-where-they-don't-belong stories! Or maybe even tales of our very own. So what's your best story?

Edited to add: my sister has since discovered that the thing she heard was to plug one nostril, blow through the mouth and the lodged item should shoot out the other nostril. It worked even though she did it differently. Personally, I like the idea of blowing in a mouth more than a nostril. But I am still disappointed that I won't have a picture for the scrapbook.

Hmmmm. I seem to recall a certain little girl putting a nice round red bead in her nose when she was two years old. We had to take her to the doctor to have it removed.

When our son was 9 he put a screw up his nose. It was off the fan that clips to his headboard. He claimed that the screw fell off and just happened to land in his nose. Whatever...

It required an ER visit where the doctors didn't even try to hide their laughter.

Mothra - yeah, I knew I had my own story. But I also knew you'd have better details, since I don't recall it at all. :D

Wow! I never knew that about blowing in the other nostril. What a great tip to store somewhere in my head! We have never had anything in a nose. I have ear kids. Bought a special irrigator spray bottle. Then forgot to use it when he put a clear plastic tag hanger in his ear. I panicked and went to the pediatrician. I felt silly when he got the exact same irrigator out.

that reminds me of the time my little brother got some kind of styrofoam up his nose and had to go to the ER to get it out. I know my day is coming for this sort of thing.
